Mechanics

 

ROUND 1 (Any Language)

All Participants will sing their song choice in any language; song must be maximum of 3 minutes

 

ROUND 2 (Battle of the Countries)

All participants will be paired. Each contestant must sing a song in a language from the country they are representing. Song must be maximum of 3 minutes

 

ROUND 3 (Any Language)

Winners of the Battle Round will proceed to this round to perform their 3rd song in any language in full duration

 

FINAL ROUND (Any Language)

Top 15 (solo) and Top 5 (duet) will be chosen to proceed to the final round and sing their final song in any language and in full duration. Based on Round 1 & 2 scores and panel deliberation, 3 wildcard from each category will also be chosen along with the Top solos and duet pairs to compete for the 1st place, 2nd place and Champion title.

Judging Criteria

SOLO

 

1. VOCAL (50%)

Vocal Technique – Tone Quality, Breath Support, Intonation, Diction and Articulation
Rhythm & Tempo – Voice in relation to music

 

2. EXPRESSION (30%)

Performance – How well the performer is able to express the meaning and mood of the song

 

3. SHOWMANSHIP (20%)

Show Design – Music Selection, Effective use of Stage and Performance Area, Outfit and style
Entertainment Value – The audience’s and judges’ reaction to the overall performance

DUET

 

1. VOCAL (50%)

Vocal Technique – Tone Quality, Breath Support, Intonation, Diction and Articulation
Rhythm & Tempo – Voice in relation to music
Timing – How coordinated the singers are in their performance in regards to syncing of vocals and interaction on stage.
Harmony – How the harmonies have been arranged and executed, Difficulty and Creative.

 

2. EXPRESSION (30%)

Performance – How well the performer is able to express the meaning and mood of the song
Match – How well the voices and personalities match in relation to the song performed
Chemistry – How credible the duet partners are in their performance, Interaction.

 

3. SHOWMANSHIP (20%)

Show Design – Music Selection, Effective use of Stage and Performance Area, Outfit and style
Entertainment Value – The audience’s and judges’ reaction to the overall performance
Choreography – How well the two are able to use the stage and each other to create a show

CHUX OLIVEIRA

Head Judge

Chux Oliveira is an American songwriter, record producer, music publisher, and tour manager of many Latin artists in Spain. He is also one of the Directors of Okebox Asia and He is also a Piano Teacher born in Venezuela and has been Musical and Artistic Advisor in international singing competitions. He earned his PA Piano Pedagogy from FSU College of Music and Master of Arts in Global Entertainment and Music Business from Berklee College of Music.

DIANE TELL

Singer-songwriter, musician and producer; As one of Québec’s pioneering female singer-songwriters, she proposed her personal repertoire over the course of her first four albums. She won six Félix prizes before the age of 25: breakout artist, best artist, best album, best song and, twice, songwriter of the year. Several of her songs have become SOCAN Classics and Si j’étais un homme was inducted in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017. She earned a MIDEM Award for her album Chimères and a Victoire Award for her album Faire à nouveau connaissance.  Over the past 25 years, Diane has relentlessly toured, written, composed and recorded in Canada, France, the U.K. and Switzerland. In 2018, she will produce her 15th studio album of original material in Montréal. As an independent artist, she owns the phonographic rights of her entire catalogue, she manages her own publishing company as well as producing and financing her albums herself. In her blog Diane Cause Musique, she engages up-and-coming artists by explaining the inner workings of the music industry.

KITARI MAYELE

Kitari is a cultural events producer for more than 20 years now at the International Culture Center Caisa in Helsinki, Finland. He is one of the major and key persons in the establishment of the International Culture Center Caisa since 1996. Kitari is the founder & executive producer of the well known ”Ourvision” – a singing competition open to amatuer musicians with immigrant origins which aims to showcase their talent and enrich the musical sphere in Finland. He has been in the music industry for many years as well promoting many artists. He has also been a delegate of the World Music Expo or WOMEX – an international music event and the biggest conference of the global music scene. He has produced events such as World in Motion, Ourvision, Golden Women Awards and so much more.

YSABELLE ARFI

Pianist, organist and arranger. Graduate of the National Conservatory of Paris (classical Piano). In parallel with a classical career, she plays with many artists including Vincent Niclo, Serge Lama or Calogero.
